II Alexandria Education Convention took place from 16-18th December 2012 in Alexandria, Egypt

Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare (SSCW) took part in the II Alexandria Education Convention, from 16-18th December in Alexandria, Egypt, organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Swedish Institute in Alexandria. SSCW was represented by Vassili Golikov.

Altogether 40 representatives from Anna Lindh Foundation Networks and other invited institutions attended the Convention that focused on a consultation process for the launch of a programme on Intercultural Citizenship Education and production of a learning resource in this field addressed to the formal and non-formal education practitioners. The education programme itself aims to support the development of educational practices and activities designed to help young people and adults play an active part in democratic life; in addition, it will support participants to exercise their rights and responsibilities in society, enhance their feeling of belonging to the community, local and global, as well as sensitising them to understand and appreciate the normality of different worldviews, customs and ways of life among human beings.

The 2nd Alexandria Education Convention was structured around plenary sessions and 3 working groups involving participants very actively in the process of producing the teaching resource on Intercultural Citizenship Education as well as the web-resource. The three working groups were convened under topics of Embracing Diversity, Education through and for Change, Pro-active Citizenship giving the participants a chance to present case-studies of the learning components from their own experience and share best practices and discuss about contemporary teaching challenges and learning methodologies. At the end of the convention the organisers facilitated an open discussion with participants and invited guests about the next steps in Education for Intercultural Citizenship.

On the final day Ambassador Mr. Nicolas Galey, Embassy of France in Egypt was also present to share his thoughts. On the schedule were also different types of other activities like visiting the Biblioteca Alexandria. The Convention was a great event and provided us also a chance to discuss non-formally, network and plan follow-up actions like improving cooperation with Biblioteca Alexandria in the frame of culture and educational project cooperation. Some of the participants of the Education Convention will also take part in the II Anna Lindh Forum 2013 in Marseile, France.
