V World Youth Congress

From 31st July to 13th August, 5th World Youth Congress took place in Istanbul, Turkey. The event is a part of the Youth Congress series led by UK-base Peace Child International, where every year either a European or World Youth Congress takes place around the world. Previous Congresses have been held in Marocco, Scotland, Canada and elsewhere.

1400 delegates from around the world took part in the Turkish Congress, among them seven Estonian representatives from four different organisations.

Congress head organiser was Turkish youth organisation E-Genclik Association and the motto of the Congress was Imece, a word representing a Turkish system of solidarity, a joint action towards the well being of an individual or the community. Imece was chosen as the topic to impress on the importance of cooperation.

The Congress focused on cooperation for development. Among the main topics were the advancement of Youth-led Development, Post Millennium Development Goals future and post Kyoto/COP15 climate change agenda.
